A union free school district in New York State is a type of school district that operates independently and is not part of a larger union or consolidated district. These districts have the authority to establish their own governance, policies, and budgets without being bound by the collective agreements or regulations that apply to unionized districts. Typically, union free school districts serve specific communities and often encompass grades K-12, providing educational services to local students while maintaining local control over their operations.

A union free school district is a type of school district in the United States that operates independently of a larger school district, typically allowing for greater local control over educational policies and practices. It is formed by combining two or more school districts or by splitting off from a larger district, enabling it to establish its own governance structure. Union free school districts often serve students from a specific geographic area and may have the authority to levy taxes and hire staff independently. This structure is common in certain states, including New York.

The Beaver Union School was designed by California architect William H. Weeks who was well known for his designs of public buildings. It is very typical of the Spanish revival style of many of his public buildings. He lived in Watsonville and a history of his work was written by Watsonville librarian Betty Lewis. Some of the more notable schools he designed include the Placer Union HIgh School in Auburn, The Union Grammar school is Campbell and the Napa High School. The Beaver Union School was a racially integrated school (one of the first in the country). It closed sometime in the 1970s when the building was sold to a private party and boarded up and abandoned.
