She wrote many important books including Under the Sea Wind, The Edge of the Sea, The Sea Around Us, and her most influential, Silent Spring. For these books Rachel won many awards including the National Book Award and the Burroughs Medal. She was known as "The Mother of the Environmental Movement". Another of her accomplishments was being the second lady elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters. She, herself, also one the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is, in the US, the highest civilian honor. Her accomplishments are not limited here, though, because she also had many others including a 17 cent postage stamp with her image on it.
