According to my research, there are no dams on the Chowan or it's three tributaries. In the late'90s the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was looking into a flood control project for the Chowan River Basin. However, funding and a high cost to low benefit in terms of cost to build versus what would be saved, has probably kept the project from moving foward. That's my opinion, not a fact in that last sentence. For more information visit http://www.nao.usace.army.mil/Projects/Civil%20Works%20projects/Chowan%20River/homepage.asp. Hope that helped!
I think there are only three,Cherokee, Catawba, and Chowan county.
Pollutants commonly found in the Chowan River Basin include nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from agricultural runoff, bacteria from livestock operations and failing septic systems, as well as sediment from erosion and stormwater runoff. Additionally, industrial pollutants and chemicals from urban areas can also contribute to water pollution in the basin.
No same-sex couples have legally married in Chowan county. Although North Carolina's ban on same-sex marriage was struck down as unconstitutional by the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit on July 28, 2014, that decision is temporarily stayed for at least 21 days.
Animals that live in the Chowan Basin include various fish species like striped bass, largemouth bass, and catfish, as well as reptiles like turtles and snakes. Birds such as herons, egrets, and waterfowl can also be found in the area, along with mammals like beavers and muskrats.
