They are equivalent degrees and are both physicians. The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) is a physician that completes four years of medical school. Like the Doctor of Medicine, the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) also completes four years of medical school and is a physician, but places additional emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathic physicians (DOs) also believe strongly in the healing power of the body and do their best to facilitate that strength.
