In a standard essay, the introduction is the first paragraph that appears on the page. A standard approach includes a general opening statement such as, "Many people today feel legitimately concerned about the quality of food in America." This is typically followed up by a transition sentence such as, "This concern has been expressed in radio programming, on television talk-shows and other programs, in numerous books, as well as in online blogs." The introduction then proceeds to the point of the present essay in such a statement as, "This particular essay focuses on one blog, in particular, which has recently made waves by claiming that..." After a preview of the points which will be made concerning (in this case) the blog in question, the main body of the essay may begin via a new paragraph.
