Cramming
It should be much more than that. Education should be learning basic skills like reading and writing, but it should also be about critical thinking, learning how to evaluate information, deciding what is true and what is false, and gaining knowledge from the greatest thinkers and scholars who wrote the books that we study today. An educational system based on just cramming information from books is not teaching students how to think-- it is just teaching them to memorize. It is certainly important to have a good memory, but it is also important to be able to interpret and assess what you are learning.

Education is a wonderful thing, but don't think that attendence at school or university will automatically impart knowledge and understanding. An expert, it is said, is a person who knows more and more about less and less until eventually they come to know everything there is to be known about nothing at all. A lot of what is described as "education" might better be described as indoctrination or "cramming". It might help a person pass an exam but doesn't actually expand their intellect or their understanding.
People cram because they think it will help them remember and do well on the test or quiz. However cramming isn't the best way study for an upcoming test or quiz because it will only be stored in your memory for short term and long term.
