What the quote by Thomas Friedman alludes to is that having huge amounts of information at hand does not teach you how to use that information. People still need to learn the fundamentals of education: reading, understanding, and creating. Much of what others have learned will then be available, to anyone who goes looking for it.

Just as being able to read the quotation does not explain it, being able to find an article on a subject does not automatically explain the subject, or allow you to use the information in any constructive way.
