Their nickname is the Maroons. The name originated in 1907 when the Baseball team ordered maroon and gray uniforms as a prank. The rest of the students soon followed and all of the athletic teams were dressed in maroon and gray. Because of their uniforms, their nickname became the Maroons. This is their nickname up to this day.
The College did create a mascot named Rooney in 2009, which is a "Maroon tailed hawk," but most students ignore "the bird" as he has been termed. The decision to create a mascot was met with mixed reviews from students and alumni.
