The primary school year (4 to 12 year olds) runs from early September to the end of June, with holidays for Christmas and Easter. Secondary schools open from September to the end of May, with similar holidays during that period. There are also mid-term breaks in schools, and other days off for things like bank holidays or church holidays.
Ireland's children aren't allowed to attend primary school until the age of four. This helps with the order of things so their education process will be orderly. But, you are still able to homeschool him/her at an early age (or enrol him/her in a pre-school)
