Secondary storage can be used to restore a backup of your files if you have to format. You can use it if you run out of room on your main hard drive. If it is external secondary storage you can also bring it with you if you need to access files at work or somewhere else.
Commonly used types of secondary storage are the USB drive and Floppy Disk, as referred to in the joke 'Can you turn my floppy disk into a hard drive?' which is impossible!

It just means second in order of importance
a secondary school teacher is a teacher that teaches higher than grade school. secondary schooling usually begins around 6th grade.
It is used to distinguish between primary, secondary & tertiary alcohols
Primary means "first" and secondary means "second". When something is of primary importance, it is the most important thing. When something is of secondary importance, it is important, but not the most important thing. Primary school is first grade through eighth grade; secondary school is ninth grade through twelfth grade. Primary school comes first and secondary school comes next.
Secondary can be used to describe something that comes after something else, either in importance or simply in order. For example, the secondary generator in a power generation complex is the one that supplies power after the primary generator. It is generally used to describe something of less importance or urgency than something that is primary. Ie. - "Me playing games is secondary to me doing my homework!" - The secondary thruster was used to perform small course corrections, whilst the primary was used for thrust.
