Christa McAuliffe
Christa McAuliffe, a high school teacher from Concord, New Hampshire, was selected to be the "teacher in space" as part of the NASA Teacher in Space Project. Tragically, she was one of the seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986.
