The traditional system (The Lancaster System), was primarily an answer to the industrial revolution and the urbanization of America. It taught children the most basic requirements to work in a factory:
1. Arithmetic, reading, and writing. (This made better employees out of "farm boys.")
2. A definite schedule of classes. (This ingrained a "time-clock" mentality.)
3. Obedience to the teacher. (This enforced the idea of a "boss," for which most people entering the work force at that time had not encountered before: they worked primarily in specialized trades or agriculture.)
What is the relevance of that system today? Well, we certainly still have factories. And we still need those people with basic skills that can be utilized in that kind of setting.
However, today we also have a need for creative, artistic, risk-taking persons that do not necessarily need a "Lancaster"-based education nor will they thrive in such a situation. But its relevance will continue so long as factories require the basic skills that are taught under this system.

FIRST OF all I am a Nepali so i want to differentiate about modern education in Nepal to gurukul system in Nepal (older education system). A student should live with their Gurus so they would get limited education only of what their teacher (guru) have taught .But now, in Nepal, their has been computer system education at which students can get all universal answers and facts what they want to know about. Science and technology have far developed. At older times the Guru's were based on epics, story's of Hinduism, casts, religious books. But now, you can see people taking science and maths as their important subject. So, their has been many development in Nepal in respect to history of Nepal. Student used to influence on behaviour at older times and there were not girl or women education but now there is coeducational education. Yes, and in this modern world there is no use of this kind of education, only to learn about the vedas would not help us to do anything in this world. Whatever we need is to learn the things happening and which is going to happen not the things that already have passed away.
