Des Sennen Abschied is originally a poem by Friedrich Schiller. I will first post the German original, then the English translation. Also, I translated the word "Senne" as "herdsman". It's an old German word for someone who has a farm up in the mountains (the Alps). The modern term would be "Almwirt" - the most literal translation could be "alps-herdsman".

The herdsman' s farewell

Farewell, you dim-ones,

You sunny willows!

The herdsman must depart,

The summer is gone.

We will go to the mountain, we will come back,

When the cuckoo will call, when the songs will arise,

When with flowers the world will dress again,

When the little wells will flow during the lovely may.

Farewell, you dim-ones,

You sunny willows!

The herdsman must depart,

The summer is gone.
