As summer winds down, a few weeks before school will start, you should:

  • Go through your clothing. Try on items to make sure they still fit.
  • Make a list of new clothing you need or desire. Don't forget to include underwear, Bras, and athletic protector (for guys).
  • If female and you already are menstruating, make sure you have a supply of tampons or feminine pads so you'll be prepared.
  • Check your old backpack for rips. If you think you need a new one, add it to your shopping list.
  • Obtain the school's supply list or make your own. Add items to your shopping list.
  • Try on all old shoes and boots; make sure they still fit.
  • Make sure to give your parent your "Clothing Shopping List" in advance so they have time to get money and go shopping with you. Remember, though, money is tight. You may not get everything you want or desire.
  • Begin to pack your backpack with essential items.
  • Decide what you'll carry in your purse.
  • Use a table or desk to 'line up' what you do have that you can use.
  • Think about old friends and what you want to 'catch up on'.
  • Use your imagination to get past any fears you have. Imagine yourself walking in the door of your school feeling confident, prepared, nicely groomed, etc. Imagine meeting new students, using your personality to welcome them.
  • Think about the kinds of problems some schools have and HOW you will deal with it. For example, how will you act around bullies? If a person bullies a person you don't even know, will YOU be the one who stands up against bullies? How will you react to cheaters--will you be brave enough to report them?
  • When you know your class schedule and needed supplies, review it with your parents. Circle things you still need; place a check mark beside what you have already.
  • Be organized. Start from the 1st day of school to make your life easier.
  • Be eager to learn! You'll only be in this grade once---make the most of it so you get a great education!

If you're asking " What can I do for fun " I'd recommend getting out and playing/hanging with friends. If you can drive, go to a party on the weekends at like a friend's house? Or you could go get supplies and have a party on Friday or Saturday.
