It was very rare for medieval serfs to be literate. Some lords of the manor even had laws banning serfs from getting an education. They could only get an education if the lord of the manor gave his permission. If they were caught getting an education ithout permission they would have to pay a very large fine. Some lords of the manor did not want the serfs to get an education because they thought that the serfs might start questioning the way things were done.
I hope that this will help you!

What education and training is required to become a Researcher?
What is training

childhood education
Whats serf
A nobleman's child would have access to education, opportunities for travel, and luxury goods, while a serf's child would likely live in poverty, work in the fields, and have limited access to education. The nobleman's child would have a higher social status and better living conditions compared to a serf's child.
