Shiphay Manor was never sold to the boys grammar school it was given to the education authority by Torquay Council back in the 70s when the old grammar school was demolished to make way for Torquay technical college back in the late 70s. This came about by the fire destroying the old former art school back in the 60s which was positioned next to the post office at the GPO roundabout. The Shiphay manor had laid bare since the late 50s when the family renting it retired. They ran the stables and it was mostly bare inside. Torbay council had owned it since the building of the girls grammar school back before the second war. During the was it is supposed to have housed American GIs who were billeted in Shiphay and filled the fields where the houses are built at queensway which was a part of the manor. Hope it is useful info
