Lew Alcindor was a Senior in New York City at Power Memorial Academy in 1965, so I am sure it would have been a real surprise to his coach that he was also starting for UCLA. In fact, Lew Alcindor attended UCLA from the fall of 1965 through the spring of 1969. In 1965 freshmen were not eligible to play division one varsity Basketball.
