Why do people learn languages especially English?

Most learn English so they can speak, spell and use proper grammar in countries that are English speaking. Just like people in Spain learn Spanish so they can speak, spell and use proper grammar in their country and in countries that are predominately Spanish speaking. To suggest it is racist to learn and apply a language the correct way shows ignorance.

People learn languages because they might go overseas and not no how to communicate to people over there. People especially learn English because it's the most common language spoken in the world.

That tooWe learn English here in order to communicate with our own people, which is one of the only ways to convey our thoughts and opinions to others. Like he said, we can't communicate with other people who don't know English unless we know their language, as it would be rude to force someone to learn our language if they never came or plan to come to the US.

Yes, English is the language of choice, as our nation is the best right now, though maybe not for long, if we see nukes coming over the Atlantic! Greek, Italian were the trade languages long ago, as people had to know the trade language in order to trade their goods for the good stuff at the market, and that market is America today.
