Actually, social studies has everything to do with society. The definition of social studies is the study of social relationships and the functioning of society and usually made up of courses in history, government, economics, civics, sociology, geography, and anthropology so it has everything to do with being social.

Why is social studies called social studies if there is nothing social about it?

There actually is stuff social about it...... (in my opinion) This is because when people discover new things about the studies of way back when, it can become very social, Also, it is still social although we discovered it long ago. For example, we have Social Studies in school, so that can explain how it is still social! :)
