University classes are a huge step from high school--some students may not have the study skills or background to work independently on their subjects. The teachers are not going to track you down to attend class or turn things in. Some people who left school said they slept in for one class and then just kept on doing that. I've also read that current students average less time in the books than in the past--old school was 3 hours' study for each classday.
