It affects more than verbal communication. You cannot not communicate. The way people sit, walk. appear and gesture says something about them. Verbal communication is so small compared to non verbal communication.
Verbal communication and non-verbal communication perform different functions, sometimes at the same time and sometimes separately. Neither is better than the other.

Which statement is true when comparing verbal and nonverbal communication? Verbal messages are more important than nonverbal cues. Verbal and nonverbal communication always match. Individuals can exercise more control over nonverbal communication.
Less potential for misunderstandings in writing as well as better legal validity.
The disadvantage of verbal communication (in business) is that it is delivered, for the most part, unedited. It can also be less organized than written communication.
Verbal communication uses words. Non-verbal communication are the ways we communicate without words, such as smiling, gesturing, and touching. Things like e-mail and SMS are considered verbal communication, because they use words, even though the words are written rather than spoken. This question and answer is therefore a form of verbal communication.
Written offers are more reliable than verbal offers. No offer is 100% reliable, since people are known to change their minds.
The term 'verbal communication' encompasses any sort of spoken communication. 'Nonverbal communication' describes any type of communication other than verbal. Some examples of nonverbal communication are: email, gestures, writing messages on a chalkboard.
Because before we had words and language we had sounds, facial inflection, and body gestures to signify our needs. This core meaning still resides in the mind/body spectrum and forms a more fundamental basis of communications, even though we have learned to use spoken and written language since then. For example, the twinkle of an eye can convey a message at the subliminal level and imply more than words can describe.
I wouldn't necessarily say that verbal is more important....however, it is easier to understand. With verbal communication, it is spoken, and the intentions and wording are clear. (For the most part, unless you're with a dishonest person). For non-verbal communication, it can be very subjective. A person may smile at you from across the room, but it could mean "I'm interested" or it could mean "I'm just being polite". It is up to the other person to basically guess what the intention is. But when combined with verbal communication, non-verbal signals really help to clarify and broadcast your meanings.
It has a huge impact, probably even more than your verbal communication. Your stance, tone when talking, facial expression, etc. can cause conflicts and hilarity, can start or end relations...
