A research question should be worth investigating. It should be worth any time, money, and effort used to find the answers. Just because one person feels the need to have a question answered, it does not mean that it is worth investigating. Instead the answers to the research question should make some advances in the field of study.

Depending on the type of research; If the research is painful and inhumane I'd say no animals should be used. If the research is just to keep the animal and study it without pain, I'd say almost any animal.
If you are talking physical or medical, there should be no long term effects. However, this does depend on who does your tattoo. Research, research, research. Question friends who have tats and visit shops before you decide. Make sure you choose a shop that can and has passed a health inspection and is up to code. Question the tattooist themselves. If they are a reputable artist, then they shouldn't mind answering any of your questions.
