On most cars, you have to have your foot on the brake to be able to shift out of park while the car is running. Look to see if there is a switch connected to the brake pedal/brake pedal assembly somewhere that may have become dislodged and is not making contact.
Some cars have a finger-operated switch that allows the driver to bypass the brake pedal switch and allow the car to be taken out of park without the brake pedal being engaged.

my lincoln town car started with not going into park and now it wont go in reverse what is wrong and how do i fix it
Will it run in park? What about neutral? Is it fuel injected? Have you changed the fuel filter?
You park in the basement car park.
Sounds like a Ford! Brake and reverse light not functioning will keep vehicle from leaving Park!
Take it out of reverse.
No your car just wont come out of park.
If the car is not in park, it wont release the key. If it is in park, there is a little switch underneath the prndl indicator that is bad, causing the car to not release your key.
You can also start a car in Neutral. Also remember to put your foot on the brake too.
in a car park
There may be a problem inside the transmission, or the linkage could be loose or disconnected in some way.
this happened to my 2006 Toyota highlander...look under hood...a piece of foam was stuck up under parking brake so it couldn't shift into park
