I'm not sure. One of my high school teacher's brother failed out of college. He went to a local college and then transferred back to the original one after a year.
Um, he might have to apply as a transfer. Did he receive any credits? It depends on how many he has-if none, then he'll start over as a freshmen. Generally, to start the following year as a sophomore, he'd need to have sucessfully completed between 30-32 credits.
First, decide what college your son wants/is going to and call up-do not give his name. Each school may be different. He'll probably have to show his transcripts though....Have a list of colleges that he's considering applying to (some school's still have rolling admissions!!!).
Good luck. Hope this helps.

Yes it does when you are a freshman in college .
The steps in college begin with an undergraduate degree or the freshman through senior years of college. The graduate degrees follow the undergraduate degrees.
