Punishment is any event that decreases the likelihood of something to occur while reinforcement is any event that increases this likelihood. Now negative reinforcement is going to increase the likelihood of something occurring by taking away an aversive stimuli. For example, if you do your homework now, you won't have to take out the trash later.

What is the difference between positive reinforcement negative reinforcement and punishment?

Positive reinforcement is to add something to motivate a child to do the same thing again. While negative reinforcement is to remove or get something for the child to aim for the reward by completing the task. Punishment using positive and negative reinforcement can be very effective. If someone does something wrong, you want to set them a task that will help them make better decisions next time. To do that, you have to work out consequences. The best example I have is from my days of substituting kids who were in detention. When they first arrived, they had to write a paper outlining what they did and how they would avoid doing it again. It was amazing how many times it took them to honestly say what they did (without blaming others or circumstances) and to develop a plan for the future. It worked because there were no excuses.

The difference between positive punishment and negative punishment?

Positive punishment involves doing something that the person being punished will not like (for example: spanking, verbal rebuke, embarrassing the person in some way, etc). Negative punishment involves removing something that the person being punished does like (for example: taking away phone or TV, etc.).

What is the best way to differentiate operant conditioning from classical conditioning?

I think... With classical conditioning, the conditional stimulus is presented before the unconditional stimulus to form a conditioned response. For example, training a dog to return when a whistle is blown. With operant conditioning, reinforcement is presented after the response. For example, rewards (positive reinforcement) are given for good behaviour. Punishment (negative reinforcement) for bad. Hope this helps... Classical conditioning was discovered accidentally by Pavlov.

How is latent learning different from the kinds of active learning that are achieved when you are trying to achieve a goal?

Latent learning is learning that occurs without any obvious reinforcement or motivation, while active learning involves goal-oriented behavior that is driven by rewards or consequences. In latent learning, the knowledge is acquired passively and may not be immediately demonstrated, whereas in active learning, the learner is actively engaged in problem-solving or task completion to achieve a specific outcome.

What is difference between negative reinforcement and punishment in psychology?

Punishment is a moral concept; someone has done something wrong and therefore deserves to suffer a punishment. Negative reinforcement is not a moral concept but a pragmatic concept; we do not want someone to do something, therefore we give them a reason not to do it, in the form of some undesired consequence. Of course, the actual process of either punishment or negative reinforcement could turn out to be exactly the same. Only the motive is different.

What are the differences between punishment and negative reinforcement?

Punishment involves adding an undesirable consequence to decrease the likelihood of a behavior occurring again, whereas negative reinforcement involves removing an aversive stimulus to increase the likelihood of a behavior being repeated. Punishment aims to decrease behavior, while negative reinforcement aims to increase behavior. Negative reinforcement strengthens a behavior by removing something unpleasant, while punishment weakens a behavior by adding something unpleasant.

What is the difference between reinforcement and feedback?

Feedback and reinforcement are important concepts in learning. Feedback involves to provide information about their responses to learners, whereas reinforcement is a tendency of the learner to make a specific response again. Feedback can be positive, negative or neutral; reinforcement is either positive (increases the response) or negative (decreases the response). Feedback is almost always considered external while reinforcement can be external or instrinsic (i.e., generated by the individual).
