A student who has good study habits usually has honed those habits as a child, with a love of learning. While some may consider people are either born good students or not, this is not true and can be learned, although it is a practice much easier to come by when created when most habits are created... before second grade.

The reality is when a person enjoys studying, their academic performance goes up, naturally. You will never see a professional ballerina dance for hours on end when he or she loathes dancing. We do what we're good at, and we're good at what we love to do. So, force yourself to study by making it a game if you need to, and get those habits in gear. Before you know it the academic performance will rise.

Also note that age has absolutely nothing to do with the learning curve, as far as after high school. An older person who stays in tune with the technological advances, current events, and keeps their wits sharp with puzzles, etc. is often times as bright as a college student. The issue is people tend to relax when they aren't being tested and the academic performance decreases with lack of study habits.
