If a smart car were to be washed, it's air-metal interface lubricant would soon oxidize and cause the fuel economy of this vehicle to plummet. Studies have shown that the result is something around 2 to 3 mpg, which would be quite a hefty dent in ones pocketbook. Fortunately, a reapplication of the lubricant is available, but can be quite expensive in some locations, ranging anywhere from 300 to 400 pounds.
