Although all three use somewhat different techniques in doing so, all three methods of producing electricity use a process called COMBUSTION.
Oil, Coal, or Natural Gas plants burn their respective fuel to produce heat, which in turn boils large amounts of water. When the water boils, it produces steam, which rises into a large turbine, or wheel. The turbine has gigantic magnets in the outer ring which spin at a high rate of speed against stators, which then turn the magnetic energy into electrical energy. This electrical energy is then transmitted to end users, such as homes, businesses and factories.
