A lot of things can affect how long a car battery can last. If you feel your battery went dead too soon, take the car in and have it looked over by a professional. Also, make sure you turn your lights off, etc. when not using your car.

In the UK the guarantee periods are 3yrs., 4 yrs, & 5 years.

The longer the guarantee period the more expensive the battery. You may expect to pay up to £200.00 for a best quality, 5 yr. guaranteed battary. However, the cheapest battery's are about £50.00 to £60.00.

If it has been in the vehicle longer than 5 years, it may still function. However, I would suggest that you replace it, because if the 'battery collapses', the car will not start.

Also , if there is any white deposit around one of the battery terminals, I would suggest you replace the battery, as the white deposit suggests that the batterty is old.

NB Carry a set of 'jumper leads'. If the car will not start , then the jumper leads can be connected battery-to-battery in another car to get you started.
