Based on everything Ive seen, using a panel that is 100watt, running at peak proformance you'd need 25, but these panels are usually near a meter and a half long and 2 thirds of a meter wide, or 3-4 feet X 2-3 feet.. this would cover a large surgace area and would rarely run at maximum, to ensure the required energy was achieved you'd likely want to double that amount.
depending on your lodation wind can be much more plentiful, Ive seen companies that sell wind towers, that reach 2500KW/H and cost about $50,000USD.. Im considering a combination of one of these towers and maybe a dozen panels for extra insurance.

Solar panels are a great option to use to reduce your electricity bill. For your first month's bill on your 2500 sq. ft. home you can see a reduction anywhere from $10 up to $100.
The payback on solar panels depends on the type of panel, as well as what incentives are available. For example in Louisiana the state will pay for up to half the cost on your system, so you could install a Solar Water Heating panel for around 2500 which would pay for itself within the first 3 years. If you replace a gas or electric Pool heater with Solar Pool heating panels they would pay for themselves within 1~2 years. If you mean Solar Electric panels, they have the longest payback of all. Even with a 30% incentive from the US government most Solar Electric systems will still take 8~12 years to pay for themselves. Luckily they last 25~30 years.
