No, it is not, not at first. But the first three months of use usually compensates for for the production emissions.

In calculating the carbon footprint, the carbon costs of manufacture, transportation, and installation all have to be included, as do the costs of uninstallation and disposal at the end of the life cycle of the apparatus.

The carbon footprint of solar power is small. Solar thermal power, such as is used in solar hot water, can have a smaller carbon footprint than wind or hydro, because the manufacturing cost (in terms of carbon emissions) of solar thermal can be kept to a minimum. Solar photovoltaics (PVs) have a larger carbon footprint than wind or hydro, though modern PVs have a carbon footprint that is not much bigger, perhaps twice as big. This is because a lot of energy is used in manufacture. Older PVs had a much larger carbon footprint because they were less efficient (produced less power) and manufacture required gasses like nitrogen trifluoride (NFl3), which is about 17000 times as powerful as CO2 as a greenhouse gas. The NFl3 was trapped, but tiny amounts of it escaped, and these had to be accounted for.

The operation of solar power can be carbon neutral, but this does not consider the total carbon footprint as it should be - "cradle to grave," as they say.

How can solar energy hep to become carbon neutral?

By increasing the use of solar energy, we can reduce the use of oil, gas, and/or coal, thereby reducing the production and release of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. That could help us to become carbon neutral.

Does solar energy have Carbon Oxide in it?

No, Solar Power is not a Chemical Compound.

How many carbon credits will 1kwh of solar power generation everyday earn?

1 kw of solar power with a average of 5.5 hours of sunlight per day will produce 1 carbon credit per year. 1 carbon credit is equal to 1 ton of carbon dioxide offset. Gary Waren

When was The Carbon Neutral Company created?

The Carbon Neutral Company was created in 1997.

What source of energy does not produce carbon dioxide when it is used?

Wind energy being used in wind mill would not produce CO2 Nuclear power plants would not produce CO2 Hydropower would not produce CO2 Why not? Solar energy in case of solar cells would not produce CO2

How man electrons does a neutral atom of carbon have?

The neutral carbon atom has 6 electrons.

Is carbon monoxide an acidic oxide or neutral oxide?

Carbon monoxide is a neutral oxide because it does not react with water to form an acid.

How many carbon credits will 1 megawatt of solar power generation everyday earn?

How does solar power reduce carbon emissions?

By its self it does not reduce carbon emissions. What it does do is provide an alternative source of energy that does not create any more carbon emissions. Though, this will only become effective when solar energy is more cost effective than carbon based energy.

How can solar energy help Maldives to become a carbon neutral country?

The Maldives could use solar panels to harness (free) sunlight and produce electricity. This would mean they will become less dependent on (costly) fossil fuels - the burning of which is the main source of air-borne carbon.

Which oxide of carbon are neutral?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a neutral oxide of carbon because it has equal numbers of carbon and oxygen atoms, resulting in a balanced charge.

Is a solar power plant pollution free?

Basically yes. Once it is running there are no carbon dioxide or other emissions. This is what makes it such an excellent generator of electricity.
