What kinds of renewable energy are there?

Renewable energy comes from a renewable source, that is, that keeps on coming, like sun, wind, tides, ocean waves and geothermal heat (from deep under the ground).

Non-renewable energy comes from burning fossil fuels like oil, coal, wood and nuclear power. When we've used them all, there's none left.

So the renewable energy that we are harnessing is:

• Solar Power (using the sun to heat water and generate electricity)
  
• Hydro-electric power (from damming rivers)
• Wind Power (using wind turbines to generate electricity)
  
• Tidal Power (using the power of the tides to generate electricity)
• Ocean Wave Power (using the power of the waves to generate electricity)
• Geothermal Power (using heat from deep under the earth)
• Ocean Thermal Power (using the difference in temperature of surface and deep water) Biomass which is:
  

• producing biofuel like ethanol from vegetation.
• producing biogas by capturing methane (natural gas) from landfill sites and from animal and human sewage. * using vegetation to burn in steam generators. Burning it will release (very recently captured) carbon dioxide, but if we allow the vegetation to decompose it releases methane, a much more dangerous greenhouse gas.
