Bioplastics are not a new concept. Henry Ford used soybeans to make a bioplastic body for a car in 1941, and celluloid plastic was manufactured from camphor and acid-dipped cotton almost 80 years earlier. Polylactic acid (PLA) plastics, made from corn, were created from a collaboration in 2000 between Cargill, Inc. and Dow Chemical. Cargill went on to partner with Teijin Ltd., a Japanese plastics manufacturer, to produce corn plastics under the name NatureWorks LLC.

What alternative materials to fossil fuels can be used to make plastic?

Some alternative materials to fossil fuels for making plastic include plant-based sources like sugarcane, corn, and algae. These materials can be used to produce bioplastics, which are biodegradable and renewable. Recycled plastics from post-consumer waste can also be used as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-based plastics.

How is biomass being use?

Biomass is being used as a renewable energy source by converting organic materials such as wood, crop residues, and animal waste into heat, electricity, or biofuels. This process helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provides a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels for power generation and heating. Biomass can also be used in the production of bioplastics, biochar, and other bioproducts.

What are the materials needed to make shoes?

What are renewable feedstocks?

Renewable feedstocks are materials used for the production of biofuels, bioplastics, and other renewable products that are derived from natural resources that can be replenished, such as crops, plants, algae, and waste materials. These feedstocks can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

Where can non oil based plastic be acquired?

The materials used to make plastic could come from coal, wood / plant oils or bio mass. They could be produced by fermenting sugar from crops and using the alcohol as a starting material (feedstock)for the production of the raw materials. As far as I know nobody makes such plastics commercially yet, but someone else might know more...... Try googling " bioplastics " for more information
