If temperature increases the resistance will also increase. This is why a light bulb is a non ohmic conductor. As the light bulb filament gets hotter its resistance will increase.

Additional Comments

It depends upon the material involved. In general, for pure metal conductors an increase in temperature will cause their resistance to increase. For insulators, an increase in temperature will cause their resistance to decrease -which is why excessive temperature is often the main reason why insulation fails. Alloys can be manufactured that will maintain a relatively constant resistance over a wide range of temperatures.

Temperature affects resistance indirectly. What is actually being affected is the material's resistivity. Resistivity is one of the factors that determines resistance.

The resistance of any given material can be calculated over wide range of temperatures, using the temperature coefficient of resistance for that material.

What is principle of thermistor?

The thermistors are resistors whose resistance changes with the temperature. While for most of the metals the resistance increases with temperature, the thermistors respond negatively to the temperature and their resistance decreases with the increase in temperature. Since the resistance of thermistors is dependent on the temperature, they can be connected in the electrical circuit to measure the temperature of the body.

Does the current ina circuit increase with increase in temperature?

Resistance increases as temperature increases. If Voltage is held constant then according to Ohm's Law Voltage = Current x Resistance then current would decrease as resistance increases.

When resistance decreases what happens to current?

Based on the simplest Electrical Equation V = I * R,(reads: voltage equals current multiplied by resistance)then, rearranged I = V / R .As resistance decreases, current flow proportionately increases

Which semiconductor have positive temperature coefficient?

With the increase in temperature if the resistance increases or the current in the circuit decreases then it is said to be have positive temperature coefficient .But in semi-conductors with the increase in temperature the electrons present in the valance band are excited and they would enter the conduction band for conduction . As the no. of charge carriers always increase in a semi-conductor , implies that the current always increases with the increase in temperature so the semi-conductor can never have positive temperature coefficient

What is the effect of temperature on transistor?

conductivity of semiconductors increases with increase in temperature as breakdown of covalent bonds take place in the semiconductor due to increase in temp but more & more increase in the temp may result in the breakdown or damage of the semiconductor which results in the decrease in conductivity of semiconductor

How do you increase viscosity?

Viscosity is the resistance of a liquid to flow. When temperature decreases Viscosity generally increases. Viscosity generally decreases when the temperature increases.

If a carbon resistor increases in temperature its resistance will?

This depends on the type of conductor. If the conductor has a positive coefficient the resistance will increase. If the conductor has a negative temperature coefficient the resistance will decrease.

Will the resistance increase when the temperature increases in a semiconductor?

NO. In a semiconductor the resistance decreases with increase of temperature. It is their natural behavior unlike conductors and insulators. If we decrease the temperature their resistance increases. At 0 degree kelvin all semiconductors will act like perfect insulators.

Does temperature increase affect resistance?

Yes. The exact effect - whether it increases or decreases - depends on the material.

What is the difference between PTC and NTC resistors?

positive temperature coefficient vs. negative temperature coefficient resistance increases or decreases with increase of temperature, respectively.

As altitude increases in the Troposphere does the temperature increase?

No, the temperature does not increase in fact it decreases as the altitude increases yes it does.

Does increasing the resistance increase the electric current?

If the current through a pure metallic conductor causes the temperature of that conductor to rise, then its resistance will increase. A practical example of this is an electric lamp. The cold resistance of a lamp is very much lower than the hot resistance.

What is negative resistance region?

The region where resistance decreases with increase in temperature.

Does the temperature in the troposphere increase as the altitude increases?

No, the temperature in the troposphere decreases as the altitude increases.

How Resistance increase as you press probes?

Resistance decreases, not increases, as you apply pressure to probes.

When temperature increases density increases or decreases?

An increase in temperature usually causes an increase in volume. Since the mass doesn't change, density decreases. tt

Why do the semiconductors have negative temperature coefficient whereas the metals have positive values?

Semiconductors: When temperature increases, more electrons jump to conduction band from valance bond. Hence resistance decreases. Metals: Already plenty of electrons are there in conduction band. When temperature increases, the electrons in conduction band of metal vibrate and collide each other during their journey. Hence the the resistance of metal increases with increase of temperature.
