The SI convention is that all SI units, when written in full, are written entirely in lower-case letters. For those units named in honour of individuals, only their symbols are capitalised. For example, the SI unit for power is written as watt but, because it is named in honour of James Watt, its symbol is a capital W.

So it is incorrect to capitalise ampere (not amp!).
