In electronics, a center tap is a connection made to a point half way along a winding of a transformer or inductor, or along the element of a resistor or a potentiometer. ..
Transformer 6-0-6 means it is a 12 v centre tap transformer which has 6v output with respect to its centre tap terminal at either end, while there is 12 v across the ends of the secondary. We can use either end terminal of transformer secondary and a centre tap terminal as line-neutral supply. This type of transformer is frequently used with a full-wave rectifier using two diodes, in this case to provide a 6 v supply.
Center tap transformer is the such kind of transformer that is made to a point half way along a winding of a transformer.
OCTC means off circuit tap changer (off load tap changer) and OLTC means on load tap changer. in octc we can change the tap position while the transformer is in off condition only. we can not change the tap position of octc in charged condtion of the transformer. the tap position of octc can be change in deenrgise condion of transformer only means if you nwant to chang the tap position firstly you will have to deenrgise the power transformer then you can change the tap position of octc.while in oltc we can change the tap position of OLTC in charged condition of power transformer. This is the basic diffirence between OCTC and OLTC.generally the OCTC used in single phase generating transformer (G.T.Power Transformer) and OLTC used in three phase powwer transformers like standby transformer and auto transformer in power plants and switch yards. for any other question please mail me at (ashu_uit2007@yahoo.co.in )
Hope this helpsAn "OFF-Load tap transformer" can only have it's tap adjusted when it is De-energized,while the "On-Load tap transformer" can adjust its tap under load conditions.Kind RegardsHammad KhanUniversity of Western AustraliaAnswerAn 'off load' transformer is one whose secondary is open circuited, and not supplying a load. An 'on load' (not 'load') transformer is one that is connected to a load.
A tap changer is used to vary the turns ration between the windings of a transformer to make minor changes to the secondary voltage. An on-load tap changer enables the turns ratio to be altered without disconnecting the transformer. An off-load tap changer requires the transformer to be temporarily diconnected. On-load tap changers are installed on the high-voltage side of the transformer, where the current is lower.

A 'tap' is a connection made part-way along the length of a transformer's winding. In the case of a standard North American distribution transformer, the 240-V secondary winding is centre tapped and earthed, providing both a 240-V (across the entire secondary) and a pair of 120-V (between each end, and the centre tap) supplies to a building.
Yes. Transformers convert power by stepping up or down voltage. It doesn't matter what tap configuration they have.

The dc is supplied via a centre-tap on the transformer. This ensures zero dc net flux in the transformer core, which enables a much smaller core to be used.
AnswerNot a big difference, an ordinary transformer only have one voltage out for instance 12 Volt, where a center tap can supply two X 6V with the center tap as 0 volt and 12V it is normally called a 6-0-6 or 9-0-9 an advantage of the center tap is that you only need two diodes to get full wave rectifying where with a ordinary you will need a full bridge to get full wave rectifying
If one have a centre tap transformer you only need two diodes to get full wave rectification, the anode of the both diodes to the two outside taps the cathodes together will form your Negetive and the centre tap is your Possitive
A mulit tap ballast is in fact an auto transformer.
What is the problem of operating a on-load furnace transformer with center tap

The twoends of a center tap transformer cannot be used without a rectifier.
