In a dc motor, when the supply is suddenly turned off, there is a suddenly fall of speed in motor. this is reduced by means of electric effect. Hence it is called electric braking

electric motor braking has two types 1- electromechanical 2- electrical
but electrical has some types as : 1- regenerative 2- dynamice 3- plugging ( counter - current )
plugging rheostatic or dynamic braking regenerative braking
Bushes, with reference to DC motors is a brushed DC motor which is a motor that designed to run from a direct current (DC) power source. This type of motor is an internally committed electric motor.
Direct current or DC electric motors work for situations where speed needs to be controlled. DC motors have a stable and continuous current. DC motors were the first and earliest motors used. They were found, however, to not be as good at producing power over long lengths. Electric companies found using DC motors to generate electric did not work because the power was lost as the electric was transmitted. Brush DC motors use rings that conduct the current and form the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Brushless DC motors use a switch to produce the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Direct current motors are often found in appliances around the home. Alternating current or AC electric motors are used differently based on what type of AC motor it is. Single phase AC motors are known as general purpose motors. They work well in many different situations. These AC motors work great for systems that are hard to start because they need a lot of power up front. Three phase, also called polyphase, AC motors are usually found in industrial settings. These motors also have high starting power built transmit lower levels of overall power. AC power gets its name from the fact that it alternates in power. The amount of power given off by an AC motor is determined by the amount of power needed to operate the system. garyDC motors are of mainly 3 types.series motors, shunt motors, and compound motors. DC motors are mainly used where high torque is required from less speed (rpm),and a constant rpm can be maintained.Used mainly in : lathe ,drill machines, grinding machines, compressors and so on.Ac machines have less expenses. Used widely because Ac is more popular. They have less torque on slow speeds.Used on cooling fans, water pumps etc.
dc series motors are used because of torque vs speed characteristics.
Electric motors are generally easier and less expensive to maintain than gasoline motors for cars. Electric motors are more efficient and cleaner. There is a battery that needs to be replaced every three years, but there are no other spare parts.
plugging rheostatic or dynamic braking regenerative braking
resistor grids were used in DC MOTORS during dynamic braking. in this method of braking a resistance ( variable) is connected across armature winding so as to dissipiate the energy. the energy thus dissipiated is used for braking of motors.
Examples of DC electric motors are the starter in your car and the motor in a DC controlled elevator, to name just two.
dc series motors
A electric car uses either a DC or AC motor. Typically they use DC motors.
works with the concept of DC injection braking, where a dc volt is injected into a three phase rotating magnetic field which causes a stagnet magentic field thus bringing the motor to a complete halt.

DC injection breaking where a DC voltage is applied to the motor's coil windings.See sources and related links below.
Voltage is needed for both AC and DC motors.
electric motors
An electric train uses electric motors. Modern trains have many motors, they are mounted on the axles, one motor per axle. Some axles will be powered and have motors on them, some will not.
Mainly 2 types of braking are used: rheostatic braking and regenerative braking
