It can depend on what you are slewing. Generally faster slewing means faster loading or unloading. E.g. if you are operating an excavator if the excavator can slew faster from you digging position to your loading position less time is needed to load a truck hence productivity is increased and cost reduced. For cranes it is a similar principle
Probably the most important use is in the electric generator. They are used in metal detectors, and speakers. In generators they are used to generate a constant charge. In metal detectors they are used as a sensor; where the field is changed by metals in the ground. And in speakers they are used in a to and fro motion on a diaphragm to make sound.
The stator coil is exactly the same as a 3 phase induction motor. The difference being the rotar which has 3 phase wiring in star point or delta connection and also has the sliprings connected to the wiring of the rotor. Brushes are use for the contact between the surpply and the rotor. By controling the current we can control the torgue and speed of the motor. This is done with resistance. Resistance can be greated by means of a resistance bank, liquid resistance or a variable resistance. The basic Idee is: The higher the resistance, low starting current, high torque, high % slip. Motor runs slowlyLow resistance , Higher starting current, lower torgue, lower % slip Motor runs faster. Thus by varing the rotor resistance the motor can be adapted for a spesific load. The motor Are mainly used for Overhead cranes, Elevators in buldings, Pumps under pressure and large fans
1. D.C Shunt Motors:It is a constant speed motor.Where the speed is required to remain almost constant from noload to full load.Where the load has to be driven at a number of speeds and any one of which is nearly constant. Industrial use: Lathes Drills Boring mills Shapers Spinning and Weaving machines. 2. D.CSeries motor: It is a variable speed motor. The speed is low at high torque. At light or no load ,the motor speed attains dangerously high speed. The motor has a high starting torque.(elevators, electric traction) Industrial Uses: Electric traction Cranes Elevators Air compressor Vacuum cleaner Hair drier Sewing machine 3. D.C Compound motor: Differential compound motors are rarely used because of its poor torque characteristics. Industrial uses: PressesShears Reciprocating machine.
If the synchronous motor is single phase then there are two slip rings & if this motor is three phase so the slip rings are three in number. Correction; I have never seen a single phase synchronous motor. It would cost more that it was worth. A synchronous motor has a separately excited field. If the excitation comes from a stationary DC source it has 2 slip (collector) rings. A brushless induction motor has no slip rings because the exciter armature rotates and so do the rectifiers. A permanent magnet motor, used with variable frequency drives, is another type of synchronous motor that has no slip rings. A three phase motor with 3 slip rings is a Wound Rotor motor. Wound rotor motors are variable speed motors that were used for such applications as bridges and cranes before variable speed drives.

The rapid expansion of the hoisting industry promotes the application of automation products. Although the employ of the automation is still at a relative low level, the crane manufactures and the users realize that the merits of using automation products stage by stage.
