The ground wire is a low impedance return to the main service. In case of cable failure in the raceway and the cable goes to ground (short circuit), the ground wire conducts the high current directly back to the main service and the main breaker will trip shutting off the fault. Without the ground wire, the fault would have to return through the raceway or building structure in metal buildings which have mechanical connections which could be of high resistance.

Purpose of capacitor bank on a sub-station electrical room?

The primary reason for a capacitor bank in an electrical substation is for power factor correction. There may also be some secondary purpose for the capacitor bank but the primary reason is power factor correction.

When grounding a metal box what must be done?

The grounding system of a distribution must be from zero ohms to a maximum of two ohms. This is usually obtained by bonding all metallic parts back to the distribution centre with a wire capable of handling the circuits fault current if the circuit should ground out. The ground wire in cable sets is used for this purpose.

How do you Ground a 3 wire service?

If you do not have a underground metal water pipe coming into the building then you put a ground rod at least 2 feet from the buildingf into the ground attach one end of the wire to ground rod run your ground wire and attach the other end to the neautral bar in the panel box. You need special transformer called as grounding transformer for this purpose. Grounding transformer is basically Wye-Delta type transformer with Wye connected winding connected to 3 line wires and derived neutral from Wye side grounded through desired grounding device. Delta side winding of grounding transformer is kept at no load.

How is grounding continuity established with flexible conduit?

Grounding continuity with flexible conduit is established by ensuring that the conduit itself is properly connected to the grounding system of the electrical installation. This typically involves using grounding bushings or connectors that securely attach the flexible conduit to the grounding electrode or metal enclosure. Additionally, it is important to ensure that all joints and connections are tight and free from corrosion, as these can impede the flow of electrical current. Regular inspections and maintenance help to ensure that the grounding continuity remains intact over time.
