the light bulb by Thomas Edison
October 22, 1879. However, Edison did not invent the light bulb, it is a matter of documented record that Swan obtained a UK patent covering a partial vacuum, carbon filament incandescent lamp in 1860. Thomas Alva Edison patented his invention in 1879, almost 20 years later, the same year that Swan's bulbs were in domestic use in England.
Edison did not invent the first electric light bulb, but instead invented the first commercially practical incandescent light.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yes he was afraid of the dark but Edison did not actually invent the light bulb... it was designed somewhere in the UK by Nicola Tesla. Edison refined his design to create 'the modern light bulb' ... :)!

Thomas Edison received such a patent, only to have it revoked, along with all of his other light-bulb patents, when it was discovered he had stolen the invention from the works of others.
his patent was on the 27 Jan 1880

Thomas Edison. However, all of his light-bulb patents were revoked by the patent office when it was discovered he had stolen the ideas from other earlier inventors.
It could be argued that Humphrey Davey the inventor if the arc light was the first inventor. Otherwise Woodward and Swan were granted the patent for the electric lightbulb. This patent was purchased by Thomas Edison and his backer JPMorgan. Edison changed the filament to tungsten.

Thomas Edison did not invent the lightbulb. The lightbulb was first created by a Belgian man named Jobard in 1835 and Frederick de Moleyns obtained the first patent for such a bulb in 1841. Thomas Edison invented an improved version of the bulb in 1879.
Thomas Edison is credited with perfecting the first commercially practical incandescent light bulb in 1879. He filed for a patent for his invention and his improvements made the light bulb more efficient and long-lasting.
