As far as I know, radar was invented by a Hungarian scientist named Zoltan Bay. That radar was first used in World War II by the British troops.
No world is a stage, and you cannot detect a helicopter unless you have the radar station (radar alone is not sufficient)
Normal radar sends out radio waves to determine the location of an object. Doppler radar can not only find the location of an object or storm, but using something known as the Doppler effect can determine how fast it is moving towards or away from the radar.

In the show, the name of his bear is never mentioned. However, as a side note, on "Sesame Street," Big Bird's teddy bear is named Radar in reference to the M*A*S*H character.
The actor, Gary Burghoff, left the show because he wanted to pursue other avenues (Broadway) and that he hadn't been able to develop Radar's character as much as he would have liked. The character, Rader, left after he's given a DA-7 Hardship Discharge as a result of his Uncle Ed dying.
Charlie Brown
He was a guest star in the 1st season and was promoted to regular character in the 2nd. He didnt replace any character. Unless you mean the fact that he took Radar's job (company clerk) in the 8th season.
