You should never have just single wires running in the attic unprotected or anywhere for that matter. Individual wires must be in a conduit. And any splices should be in a box.

This is referred to as "skin effect". This effectively decreases the cross-sectional area, which in turn increases the resistance, and which in turn increases the signal attenuation. ( To add to my fellow compatrons statement ) You should consider placing them under major window areas on outer walls with major drafts through the windows as well. Windows are one of your very largest areas to deal with in heat load calculations and should always be adressed with vigor for drafts.
