A generator is a highly inductive device with low resistance. Capacitors are, well, capacitive. when you have an inductor near a capacitor, you can get ringing.

This is known as ferroresonance. The capacitance and inductance form an LC tank circuit, which causes excessive overvoltages. Generators are typically high impedance grounded, which contributes to ferroresonance issues.

What is a static transformer?

It's a transformer that operates with AC current in and out. It's an ordinary transformer, with the term "static" used to differentiate it from rotating transformers, such as motor-generator sets.

What is the function of synchronizing lamps?

The light system of paralleling generators has lamps hooked in series and connected between the hot lead of the lead generator and the hot lead of the lag generator. When one generator is running faster than the other one, the lights will blink off and on as the generators come in and out of phase with each other. Adjusting the throttle of the lag generator and bringing it closer to synchronise speed will cause the lights will start to pulsate slower and slower until they go off for a period of seconds and then on for a period of seconds. At this point the two generators are electrically paralleled. Count the time between on off on of the lights. At half the off time (zero voltage) throw the switch and the generators will lock together, the two generators will be running in parallel with each other. Manually to keep them paralleled requires a bit of work, as the faster generator will try and take the load and motor the other one. This is where a governor is a great asset. If the generators are tied together out of phase two things could happen. The least problematic would be the generators breaker will trip. The second and most dangerous is if the lag generator is just a little bit out of phase when the switch is thrown, then the generator will be jerked into phase lock as momentary heavy current flows between the two generators. The sudden loading of the generator has been known to break crankshafts of the engine driving it.

Are closure and interiors of connected sets always connected?

Closures are, interiors not. Proofs are pretty straightforward.

What is the function of a generator?

There are several different types of generators. I'll explain how a "large" 3 phase synchronous generator works - the type that most likely is generating the power you're using at work or home. The generator is only a small part of a power plant. It is composed of two sets of windings, one on the stator, or stationary part of the generator, and the other mounted on the rotor, or rotating part of the generator. Usually the rotor windings have voltage applied to them by an outside source that is controllable by the power plant operators through what is called the "voltage regulator". A power source is used to spin the rotor. This can be a steam turbine, a wind turbine, and many others. As the rotor spins, it induces current in the stator windings in proportion to the amount of power applied to the rotor windings by the voltage regulator (VR). This current flows out of the stator windings, which are connected to a load through the transmission system. This current, in turn, induces a reverse force (called "back emf") on the rotor winding. The back emf causes the rotor to slow down. As the rotor slows down, the governor (a system that monitors the generator's speed, and keeps it within a certain range) kicks in to speed the generator back up.

What process did Nikola Tesla use to come up with electricity?

Tesla invented the alternating-current generator that provides your light and electricity, the transformer through which it is sent, and even the high voltage coil of your picture tube. The Tesla Coil, in fact, is used in radios, television sets, and a wide range of other electronic equipment - invented in 1891, no-one's ever come up with anything better.

Why and where is a power factor regulator used?

The desired power factor value is 1. The PF is closest to 1 if the load is pure resistive. In an industry, the load is mix of resistive and inductive, more so largely inductive, the power factor tends to be less then 1 , lagging, which is not desirable. Hence power factor regulator (controller) together with suitable capacitor banks (to compenesate for lagging PF , in order to bring it towards unity (1)) are used in industry. Capacaitor banks are generally connected to load side, closer to loads. Practically to PCC or MCC locations. Capacitor banks are never connected to Generator sets.

What should we do to increase the capacitance of a capacitor?

Not much if it is a fixed capaitor. If it is a variable capacitor, rotating the shaft to mesh the two sets of plates more closely will increase the capacitance.

What is two speed single voltage perma nent split capacitor?

if a motor has 2 speeds it has two sets of windings 2 poles and 4 poles for full and half speed the capacitor sets up the rotating field for starting split phase refers to the percentage of the winding dedicated to the capacitor for the rotating field and it can be done entirely with inductance but that does involve a lot more wire

How much energy can a diesel generator produce?

The amount of energy a diesel generator set can produce depends on its size and capacity. Typically, diesel generator sets range from small, portable units generating a few kilowatts (kW) to large industrial generator sets producing several megawatts (MW) of electrical power. A small diesel generator set may produce between 5-20 kW, while larger industrial models can generate anywhere from 500 kW to several MW.

How does a Chinese diesel generator work?

A chinese diesel generator is the combination of a diesel engine with an electrical generator (often called an alternator) to generate electric energy. Diesel generating sets are used in places without connection to the power grid or as emergency power-supply if the grid fails. A Chinese generator is pretty much the same as a regular generator. Besides the fact that it is made in China there isn't a big difference in how they function.
