A: The reason is because as moving person you liable to generate kilo volts of static that when touching a circuit can and will destroy parts or worst unseen damage. The strap insure that no static can built because you are grounded to cause this kind of damage. In the industry it is mandatory if NASA has a project in the works. Get caught without it you are fired......

some devices are very hi impedance devices Therefore a discharge of potential from you to the device can possibly destroy it even if no power is applied. Friction cause an EMF clothes rubbing as by walking can cause ESD the strap is a way to discharge this potential as soon as the equipment is touched. It is A PRECAUTIONARY STEP

What is the difference between electronic engineering and electronic engineering technology?

Electronic Engineering Technology makes you a technologist engineer. You are an electronic, technological engineer meaning you are hands on in the design or development of technological equipment invented or advanced by the electronic engineering field.Do not be mistaken, electronic engineering technology does not make you a technician. Technicians are low level white collar jobs with the most limited requirement in education and often, it can be done on the job with certification issued by the employer.Technicians are basically maintaining and servicing a specific technology such as audio equipment or networking devices. Their knowledge and skill set will be limited to a specific category of technology. Most people will explain Electronic Engineering Technology degrees incorrectly and lead you to believe you are an underling servant to a real engineer which is complete B.S.The electronic engineering technologist will have a relative understanding of all current technologies but it is of course superseded by the electronic engineer's knowledge and understanding. An electronic engineer is educated with a focus on math, theory, development and advancement. For example the technologist or, technological engineer is designing a new amplification system and needs an operational amplifier to perform a task that none is existence can currently perform. It is now the engineer's duty to use his/her superior math and theory knowledge to design that op amp. Much if not all of their work is done on a drawing board and a computer. At the lowest level, the technician is the repairman that fixes the device if it breaks down because it's a simpler job in regards to knowledge but more demanding and timely so the employer isn't going to waste the technological engineer's resources on said duty.

What is soldering wire?

Solder is a group of metallic alloys that melts at a relatively low temperature and is generally used to connect other pieces of metal together. The low melting point makes it useful for some applications, especially electronic circuitry and some plumbing applications, though it should be noted that plumbing solder is a different alloy than electronic solder and plumbing solder has little or no lead to minimize lead exposure to the people who drink the water. Having described what solder IS, soldering wire is just that, its a wire that is made of solder. Solder wire is useful when working on electronic circuits since it allows the user to control how much will be put on an electronic connection. Solder wire comes in several sizes, as well as with or without a flux core. Flux is a material (usually either acidic or rosin) that encourages melted solder to flow onto other metals, usually copper, iron or brass. Other types of solder are available for use on materials such as aluminum, but solders should match the application to match the type of metals you are joining.

Do electronic devices and online access really improve our lives?

Yes - and no... Yes - because electronic devices and internet access makes our daily lives easier. No - because they lead people to become lazy. Why look something up in a book - when you can get a computer to search the internet.

What do electronic engineers do?

Electronic engineers and technicians undertake the design, implementation and manufacture of a wide variety of sophisticated electronic and communications technologies, for example: mobile telephone systems and biomedical electronics. The demand for electronic engineers and technician graduates is very high and the jobs are amongst the highest paid in the engineering sector. A qualification in electronic engineering is a passport to many careers, ranging from the telecommunications industry to the TV and film industries. A career in electronic engineering also provides plenty of opportunities to travel abroad because Irish technician and engineering qualifications are recognised throughout the world Engineers are people that can design a concept for needs in electronics. Technician do not design but do work closely with engineers to provide support by finally proofing the design. A good engineer knows exactly what book and page to find the answers needed for for the design.

Exploring the Career Field of an Electrician?

Electricians are responsible for connecting, assessing and repairing systems that use electronics in both residential and commercial building structures. This can include minor repairs of small electronic components such as appliance plugs to major electrical systems used for the entire electricity throughout a building. In today's world electricians are important for insuring the functions people depend on such as lights, climate-control, heat, security systems, and many other electronic components within the home and commercial businesses.Working ConditionsDepending on whether an electrician chooses to work within the construction industry or in a maintenance and repair industry will determine the working conditions in which they are subjected to. For example, a construction electrician will need to have the ability of lifting heavy materials such as large rolls of conduit wiring. They may also need to have the ability to work at high levels and over their head for extended periods of time. This is especially true for people who work for utility companies and vertical construction businesses.Maintenance and repair electricians will need to have the ability to troubleshoot problems without a great deal of supervision or assistance available to them. Most of these electricians work in areas such as rental properties, factories and hospitals. All electricians need to have the ability to stand on their feet for extended lengths of time. Practical thinking is another great skill that one must possess when quick thinking is needed. All electricians must also have the competency and training to operate testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, ohmmeters and voltmeters.Educational RequirementsMost workers enter the field by first working through an apprenticeship program designed to give them the training and experience for various electrical tasks. These programs are designed to allow the worker the ability of gaining these skills which will make them successful when they venture into career positions on their own.It is also possible to earn the education necessary for working as an electrician through a traditional college or university as well. These courses focus more on using book studies combined with volunteer work experience on projects in which the college participates in within the community. Both educational opportunities prepare the student for completion of their licensing exams and are beneficial to the future electrician's career.Career OpportunitiesElectricians tend to work in either the construction industry or in maintenance and repair. This accounts for approximately seventy-five percent of licensed electricians who are currently working according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics. The remaining 25 percent of licensed electricians work in a variety of areas including small electronic repair and computer electronic services.
