butterflies are endangered by people catching them as in killing them or studying them including classifying them. for protection they are pretty much on there own, but there own protection is them being faster than human unless people have a really good way to catch them, for an example: on a sunny warm day your playing near a butterfly bush you'll see the butterflies, but if they see your shadow they will automatically fly away. that's there protection.
