There are between 17 and 20 different species of penguins living in the world today. Three are already listed as endangered and ten are currently under review by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. So, the Endangered Species List is in the process of study and research due to petitions filed. Now the numbers of species listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List or CITES is 12, but I could only get that confirmed at one site.
