they cut them off with a saw
Only male elephants have tusks and some tusks fall off during fights
Poachers have decimated the elephant populations where elephants have large tusks. They kills elephants for their tusks, which is known as ivory. The ivory trade is illegal except in countries like China. As elephants with big tusks are killed off by poachers, only elephants with small tusks or no tusks at all at left to mate and have offspring.

it would but if you cut it off they would die
Ivory, which is what elephant tusks are made of, is really valuable and poachers are taking the tusks off the elephants to sell illegally on the black market.
In most cases, nothing. Most elephants are killed for their tusks which is used in the illegal ivory trade. Once they have cut off the tusks, they have no use for the rest of the body so they leave it.
Yes, elephants can survive without their tusks as long as they have access to adequate food, water, and protection from predators. However, tusks play important roles in communication, foraging, defense, and other behaviors, so elephants are at a disadvantage without them in the wild.
Poachers manage to evade rangers and locate elephants. Using powerful guns, they shoot elephants multiple times until they die. Then they use chainsaws to hack off the tusks, which are the part that sells for lots of money. Then they somehow smuggle the tusks out of Africa and into other countries.

The Tusk is nothing but a teeth that has grown out of the skull. Just like a human teeth, it is made of calcium and other minerals. some differences in African and Asian elephants is that: African elephants weigh up to 4000 - 7000 kg and have a height of about 3 - 4m, though Asian elephants only weigh about 3000 - 6000 kg and have a height of 2 - 3 and a half metres. African elephants skin is a lot darker and more wrinkled, where as Asian elephants have lighter and smoother skin. African elephants have a concave back, where Asian elephants have a straight or slightly humped back. African Elephants have a sloped head, with no bumps, bulges or denses. Where as Asian elephants have rounded heads with some bumbs and have a dint on the top of their head. African Elephants have larger ears with a size of 4m, and the ears cover its neck. Where as Asian elephants have smaller ears and it doesn't cover its neck. In African elephants, both male and female elephants have tusks, though male elephants tusks are larger. Though with Asian elephants, yes the males grow tusks as well, but the females don't. And if they do, they are barely visible anyways. Also on the end of a African elephants trunk, it has two fingers. Though Asian elephants only have one finger. ( These are true facts, I got them off my science teacher who specialises in differences found in similar mammals. )
