a small creature that looks like a cat but also has similar features to a rat, such as big teeth and it carries horrible diseases. It has a long thin tail and was made extinct by the dodo's (ate them all)

Actually, an Elkryn is somewhat very similar to the modern day Elk, but was almost double it's size and broader in muscle. It lived in the great plains of North America and was hunted by long-fangs, Wolves and early humans.
