Why would they be extinct?
We are dependent on their survival, but they aren't dependent on ours (due to the fact that they can photosynthesise and respire) so technically we are more likely to become extinct then they are and If they were extinct, then we would also be so... people to ask stupid questions would (probably... hopefully) also be dead.
