Why did the cattle ranching end?

Cattle drives were for taking cattle to the stock pens for shipping by rail. Trucks replaced the rail stock yards and now they just go from large ranches to sale. Yet, there are small cattle drives that still do take place in some areas.

Actually, railroads came before most cattle trails. The trails actually lead to the train, where the cattle would be loaded and shipped off to other parts of the USA. Before that, their were basically only cattle in a small area of northern Texas near what is today Dallas, because of railroads, cattle quickly began spreading in a Northwest sort of direction, and fresh meat was much more widely available. Cattle trails actually disappeared because of the sudden onslaught of people moving to the West, and a sudden drop in the value of cattle because of all the people coming to herd them, which caused the growth of plotting land and farming in the West.

Cattle ranching did not end, nor has it ended yet. It's still going on, even though things have changed for ranchers over the past 200 years.
